Background

Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) is a sport association registered in accordance with the Societies Act and the Act, officially registered on the 31st June 1979. Its membership has grown massively over the years, currently with the number of affiliates standing at twenty-one (21), assembled on different parts of the country.

BAA is an affiliate member of the Botswana National Olympic Committee, Botswana National Sport Commission, Confederation of African Athletics and World Athletics. The Association is charged with the responsibility to encourage promote and develop track and field athletics, road running, race walking and cross country in Botswana. Participation in athletics is non-discriminatory and this is evidenced by the wide spectrum of participants (athletes, technical officials, coaches, volunteers, Board members) with regard to gender, age and race.

The Affiliates are wide spread all over the country with teams in, Francistown, Serowe, Selebi Phikwe, Palapye, Gaborone, Lobatse, Molepolole, Jwaneng and Orapa. The growth in numbers and in distribution of Affiliates has made an immense positive contribution on the standard of play.

Constitutionally, BAA foster and support the nationwide development of Athletics through competitions and leisure activities throughout the country aimed at achieving a well - cultured and healthy social environment.
