Track & Field

New Vision, Central, Mmadinare, Palapye and Serowe athletics clubs, with the support of Botswana Athletics Association (BAA), successfully hosted a track and field event at Sam Sono Stadium in Selibe Phikwe over the weekend.
The event, spearheaded by Regional Chairperson Mr Mpho Bagwasi, attracted athletes from across the region. It aimed to provide competitive opportunities for school-going athletes while also identifying emerging talent.
In addition, the competition served as vital preparation for the upcoming BAA Track and Field Series, which begins this weekend at Francistown.

BAA Track & Field Series 1: Francistown Kickoff

The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) officially launched the 2026 season this past Saturday, January 24th, at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown. As the first installment of the Track and Field Series, the event saw the nation`s rising stars and seasoned athletes return to the oval to shake off the off-season rust and set the pace for the year ahead.

JAC CHALLENGE

07 February 2026 is excited to announce that this year’s edition will feature PRIZE MONEY in the MAIN EVENTS


Prize money will be awarded to the TOP THREE (3) athletes in EACH MAIN EVENT, for both MEN’S and WOMEN’S categories.

BAA SERIES 2 TRACK & FIELD

The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) launches Series 2,

at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown. As the second installment of the Track and Field Series, the event will see the national rising stars and seasoned athletes return to the oval to keep the momentum going as the build up to the World Athletics Relays Gaborone 26 approaches.

With over 700 entries across the Youth, Junior & Senior categories, the numbers do not lie, expect a full day of non-stop athletics action..

This series serves as a key preparatory & qualifying competition for Major 2026 events, including:

• Southern Africa U18/U20 Championships

We are proud to officially announce the launch of the Youth United Track & Field League, a national youth athletics competition designed to unite private schools, public schools, and out of school youth on one competitive platform where every young athlete belongs.
The Youth United Track & Field League is open to boys and girls aged 12–18 years. It is founded on a simple but powerful belief: athletics should be inclusive, not exclusive. Talent is not defined by background, school, or circumstance, and this league ensures every young athlete has the opportunity to compete, develop, and be recognised.
The league is officially sanctioned by Botswana Athletics, and all competitions will follow national athletics regulations, ensuring quality, safety, and credible performances.
The Youth United Track & Field League will feature two competition series this year:
• Series 1: 1 March
• Series 2: 19 April
This league is more than a competition, it’s a pathway. building confidence, discipline, unity, and a strong foundation for the future of Botswana athletics.
We invite schools, coaches, parents, and young athletes from across the country to be part of this movement as we come together to develop the next generation, united through athletics.

GABORONE CITY TOUR MEET

Moroka Athletics CLUB will host its inaugural track and field event in Gaborone aimed at improving athlete\\\'s performance for upcoming major events,  identification of young talents and promoting sports tourism in the city of Gaborone. This event will see athletes in the Junior category (under 20) and Senior category (20+) invited based on their season\\\'s best time to make it into the top 24 list. The under youth category (under 18&16) will be open for all participants to promote new talent search and development.  Registration fee is P30.00 for all participants. Entrance fee is P30.00 for adults and P10.00 for kids under 15 years old.
